Can I use an old Dish Network dish as a HD antenna?

I have to get a convertor box, now I am told I also need a HD antenna, just wondering if the old dish network dish would work?

No, they are two different things. The Dish Network antenna is designed to receive signals from a satellite.
What you need for a converter box is a good old fashioned TV antenna. Make sure you get one capable of receiving VHF and UHF. And regardless of what many people will tell you, there is no such thing as a “digital” or “HD” antenna. That is just marketing hype. Many antennas marked “HD” are simply different styles of UHF TV antennas.
